New Text Formatting Hoverbar
Len Smith
The implementation of the new pop-up element menubar is great, but it's also a bit frustrating:
* The menu bar does dismiss itself when mousinf away from existing the element,
* The size and positioning of the menu bar can obscure information that might be above it.
In the example attached, you can see where the popup can hide the line above it, which might be needed for reference for the current editing action. Also If you mouse away from the active element, the menubar remains, even thought another element has the focus (in this example the paragraph above the menubar.
I think it would be helpful if an Admin can invoke/hide the menubar by a right-click versus auto-displaying the menubar. Also, mousing off an element should probaly dismiss the menubar.
I originaly raised this to Support and they suggested that this be a feature request.

I too have been frustrated by this.

Greg Wilton This is pretty standard way that all website editors work. I must be missing something. What specifically are you finding frustrating? Is it that the bar comes up when you focus on the text?
Len Smith
Paul Cox I think what would help is to be able to right-click to also hide the toolbar if we don't want it displayed or no longer need it.

Paul Cox No, I want the bar to come up, but there have been times when I click away from the area so that the bar will go away and it does not. I just tried it and it is working properly. If I am able to replicate it I will let you know.

Len Smith I'm seeing it now too. Do you all feel that the editor was easier to use before we switch to the locked format where you have to select thing. Before there was issues where you had to be hover exactly over the right thing or you wouldn't get the correct interface. This fixed that but it came with other issues. Perhaps theres a hybrid way where we bring back some of the hover based quick actions? Thoughts?

Paul Cox In raising this issue, I don't want you to feel that the work you have done on this isn't appreciated. It is. You all have been awesome in responding to improvement ideas and this is the first time that I have run across an implementation that was a bit problematic (for me at least).
Personally, displaying/dismissing the menu bar via right-click may be the best solution. At the moment, I can click into an element and the menu displays, but I have no way to hide it without leaving that element for another. If I can dismiss it with a right-click, that would be great. If I need it again, I can right-click and bring it back.
I would defer to what the community feels works best though.

Len Smith it's unlikely we'd ever use a right click for anything. it's just not a common ui practice. I feel like a side part is probably best but we only have the side bar in the website editor and we need this functionality across the blog and events system too. We'll discuss as a team.

Paul Cox Thanks for looking into this. I think the menu bar is great, as long as there's a way that we can also dismiss it without having to click out of the field that we're on.

Hey len! I can see in your screenshot that the "Check out these fun events" still has the focus which is why the menu bar is still present there. You may have moused over something but that doesn't give it focus. You only get focus when you click it which brings up the edit bar.
